Education

I graduated cum laude and with departmental honors from Weber State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree with emphases in English, American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, and Music. My capstone project was adapting a native ASL poem into English and composing an 8-part harmony choral song, which debuted at Fremont High School under my direction.

Also in 2018, I graduated from Davis Technology College with a program certificate in ASL Interpreting. I earned part of my bachelor's degree at Iowa Lakes while on soccer, music, and honor scholarships.

While I attended Weber State, I was elected as the Honors Student Senator and was also selected as the communication liaison on the student board of the Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service. During this service, I organized events to increase public voter turnout, wrote fundraising letters, and completed surveys and projects to solve student issues.

During my degree and in my professional life, I have extensively studied English and language. I studied advanced grammar, structure of English, and writing. In my profession, I study language for meaning and convey it accurately. This expertise will help me benefit the city council as one who reviews and helps to write policy with clarity and precision. I am also prepared with astute communication skills to represent the city to community partners and other leaders.

Completing both of my programs simultaneously required time management, sacrifice, and hard work. I was also working a part-time job and raising my first son at the same time. After I graduated from both schools, I passed my state interpreting certification exam and I now work as an ASL interpreter part-time while my children are in school.
