Roy City Council

Governance Style
1) Collaboration is strength. My parents helped shape the leader I am. I learned from my father that everybody knows something and nobody knows everything. In my current positions, I do extra research to be prepared with ideas and information to discuss. A wise leader will look to others for their their expertise and listen more than she talks. In my various leadership positions, I am known to be inquisitive and insightful in my discussion.

2) Leadership is service. I learned from watching my mother that strong leaders emerge from quiet public servants. Those who are motivated by the selfless drive to volunteer thrive in leadership roles. City Council is far more than attending meetings and helping to make decisions; those on City Council commit to working with community partners, doing research, serving on committees with special interests, being open to the viewpoints and needs of others, organizing projects and events, and being present to serve wherever they are needed to fill in the gaps. This is the lifestyle I am already living.

3) Integrity is key. Government leaders are trusted with a responsibility to represent and act in behalf of tens of thousands of Roy residents. These representatives must be honest and have unwavering integrity in this capacity. This means to act with the intentions of those who elected them. Representatives should never act for personal gain.

Integrity in government also means transparency. Quorums are to remain publicly accessible, not private. All public input avenues must be observed. It is the responsibility of government officials to report plans and seek input from residents at every stage of a project or process.
Lastly, integrity includes being honest about the capabilities and limitations of one's office of government. Candidates and those elected must not make promises to act in ways their office cannot. Elected officials must acknowledge the wise separation and limitation of powers inherent in our government that removes total power from any one person. Councilmembers should be elected based on their ability to work within that framework, offering hard work ethic, wisdom, and collaboration with the other government officials.
